October 2023.
Rafael was invited to give a series of conference presentations on orchestral conducting at the V Encuentro de Orquestas, Bandas y Coros hosted by the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in partnership with several of the most important universities in the region. Each presentation was paired with master classes for conductors in open sessions. The repertoire for these active participants consisted of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Schubert’s Fifth Symphony, and movements from contemporary Venezuelan composer Reinaldo Moya’s piano cycle “The Way North.” This modern work “depicts the journey of a Central American migrant through Mexico and his eventual arrival in the United States.” The reception for the topics presented and the conducting master classes was very complimentary and Rafael looks forward to visiting Bogotá again.
