Bringing the artistry and music of Latin American composers into the standard repertoire of our North American orchestras is one of the ways that I think about meaningful and relevant programming. "We Dance," my first concert with the University of Memphis Symphony Orchestra, celebrates the spirit of rhythm and movement in music that connects us as Americans in a continental sense and features the music of two important composers in my own musical life, Julio Fonseca from Costa Rica, and José Pablo Moncayo from Mexico. I am thrilled that the Spanish-language newspaper in Memphis, La Prensa Latina, showcased this program in their publication and is interested in developing more of a relationship with the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music!
