Coming home to Costa Rica is always a delight. But this year’s visit was special because I had the chance to perform with Fran Angeregg as soloist on Reinaldo Moya’s violin concerto “Vestida de Mar.” Fran’s artistry and impeccable technique is showcased by Reinaldo’s brilliant writing through a colorfully complex tapestry that exudes his compelling will as a composer. Their concerto – he wrote it for her to play - captivates with an eclectic and expansive musical language, distinctly Latin America, yet boundless in its scope and technique.

Originally composed for symphony orchestra and violin soloist, this concert featured the international premiere of the wind band setting of this concerto. I am so grateful to the wonderful musicians in the Banda de Conciertos de San José, a professional wind band in the Costa Rican Ministry of Culture, for their professionalism and high musicianship in bringing this concerto to life.
