Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony

Rafael returned to Chancay in Peru to conduct a two-day workshop with the Municipal Orchestra of Chancay on Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Modeled on the Venezuelan “Sistema” program of orchestras as a vehicle for social justice, Rafael previously conducted this orchestra in concert in February 2023 after first being introduced to the program during a two-day visit in June the previous year. He and the orchestra’s director, Maestro Javier Prada, are continuing to plan for more visits with the goal of realizing student exchange opportunities as part of this ongoing relationship.
